Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng met yesterday with the convenor of the Hong Kong Executive Council and Hong Kong Legislative Council member, Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, to exchange views on further enhancing cooperation between Hong Kong and Macao and promoting the development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the Guangdong Macau Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
Ho introduced the local Administration’s policies on the overall direction of governance, the city’s social security system, “housing ladder” policy, support for youth entrepreneurship and environmental protection, as well as briefing Ip on Macao’s experience in the prevention of and fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and economic assistance measures over the past three years.
Ip said that she had not been able to visit Macao for three years during the pandemic. She stressed that Macao’s tourism industry has been able to recover rapidly after the pandemic.
Ip also said she hoped to learn from Macao’s successful experience, and also hoped to strengthen cooperation in tourism, economic development, education and technology in the future.
Ip, 72, heads the New People’s Party. She is a former director of Immigration and secretary for Security, The Macau Post Daily reported.
