According to the statement cited by The Macau Post Daily, the committee will be of consultative nature, which includes giving opinions on the development of the profession and medical personnel training, conducting research and compiling reports for ethical guidelines and regulations. It can also demand assistance from professionals in the Health Bureau (SSM) and academic bodies
The committee will comprise 43 members, a chairman, representing the government, a vice-chairman, 29 members from different medical disciplines such as Western medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), dentistry, the pharmaceutical sector, rehabilitation and nutrition, as well as three from the public hospital, two from academic TCM institutions, two from the city’s nursing school and five from different sectors of society. The members, to be appointed by the secretary for social affairs and culture, will have a renewable two-year term on the committee.
The by-law also states that regular meetings will take place once a month, with special meetings convened when demanded by the chairman or more than one third of members. The budget for running the committee will be part of the Health Bureau’s regular budget.(macaunews)
