The Public Security Police (PSP) said Sunday that an inactive hand grenade was found in Patio de S. Domingos- just about a three minute walk to the city’s main square Largo do Senado.
The Public Security Police (PSP0 said in a statement that it received a report from a resident saying that there was a rusty metal object that looked like a hand grenade next to the entrance of a residential building.
A number of PSP officers including a group of bomb disposal experts rushed to the scene.
According to witness reports cited by The Macau Post Daily, PSP officers immediately cordoned off the area where the object was found.
After checking the object, the bomb disposal officers confirmed it was a hand grenade and took it to the PSP headquarters for further investigation. After about an hour, the cordoned-off area was reopened to the public
According to the statement, the grenade was rusty and hollow with the pin rusted in. The statement described it as “not dangerous.”
The PSP also said in the statement that it would continue to investigate where the hand grenade came from.
Talking to The Macau Post Daily both PSP and PJ spokespersons said that they would not release any further information on the case for the time being.(macaunews)
