The Macau Literature House will be opened in the third quarter of this year next to the Historical Archives in Tap Seac Square.
Cultural Affairs Bureau president Leong Wai Man announced the decision after the plenary meeting of the Consultative Council for the Development of Culture, chaired by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture.
The meeting set up three working groups for the study and development of artistic cultural resources. According to Leong, the pilot project for the architectural and historical revitalisation of 10 Mong-Ha Villas in Avenida do Coronel Mesquita, which will get financial support from the government initially, was also considered.
“We hope to have artistic and cultural elements in three of these villas and the remaining seven can have commercial elements such as restaurants, cafes or shops,” said Leong.
“The important thing is to maintain the architectural value. At the end of the year, we will launch a public tender.”
Leong acknowledged the financial difficulties that the cultural sector is experiencing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but said that it is also up to Macao’s cultural companies to come up with new ideas to overcome the crisis and guarantee survival because “they can’t always depend on financial support from the government.”
For the second half of the year, Leong said that the Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) – Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique and São Tomé e Principe – the Music Festival, the Hush Concert and the activities of the Mooncake and China National Day are on the agenda, TDM reported.
