Macau, China, 4 Jul -Vietnam star Le Cong Vinh took his FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifiers to eight in two games after the three-time Vietnamese footballer of the year followed up his first round, first-leg hat-trick with five goals in the ASEAN side’s 7-1 hammering of Macau in Sunday’s second-leg.
Cong Vinh hit a first-half treble in Ho Chi Minh City last week and repeated the fete in the return fixture in Macau with goals in the 3rd, 29th and 43rd minutes as Vietnam stormed to a 4-0 lead at the interval, with Nguyen Quang Hai also on target in the opening period.
Leong Ka Hang found the target for Macau on the hour mark but that only seemed to wake up their more illustrious opponents as Cong Vinh added further goals in the 75th and 82nd minutes before Macau’s misery was complete when Huynh Quang Thanh sealed the 13-1 aggregate win with four minutes of the match to play.
The first round qualifier marked the first competitive action for Vietnam’s new head coach Falko Gotz but the 49-year-old, former East Germany international striker will face a sterner test of his credentials in the second round when Vietnam face 2011 AFC Asian Cup hosts Qatar.(MacauNews/Sports)
