Hotel sector revenues amounted to MOP27.87 billion in 2014, up by 10.2 percent year-on-year, according to an annual survey released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Analyzed by subsector, room sales increased by 14.3 percent year-on-year to MOP13.65 billion, accounting for 49 percent of the total. Receipts from food & beverages increased marginally by 1.1 percent to MOP5.65 billion while receipts from space rentals rose by 18.6 percent to MOP5.58 billion, with those for MICE events (MOP 339 million) soaring 111.1 percent.
According to the survey, a total of 66 hotels and 33 guest houses were operating in 2014, only one establishment less than in 2013. The total number of persons working in the sector dropped by 1.1 percent year-on-
year to 39,475, of which 26,089 (66.1 percent) were working in 11 large-scale hotels, which employ 800 or more persons.
The data released indicates that the total expenditure of the hotel sector increased by 7.9 percent year-on-year to MOP23.07 billion.
