A new custom clearance policy between Macau and the city of Zhuhai come into effect today ahead of the 15th anniversary of Macau’s return to China that will be celebrated Friday.
The policy is aimed to provide more choices to people who travel between the two places and ease the pressure of the borders.
The new custom policy will be adopted in Macau and three Zhuhai borders, Gongbei, Hengqin and Cross Border Industrial Special Zone.
The opening time for Macau customs and Gongbei will be extended an extra two hours each, people with effective identifications will be able to enter and leave from 6am to 1am in the next day, while the custom clearance time slot for goods stays the same.
Macau’s Lotus border and Zhuhai’s Hengqin border will open 24 hours for clearance of visitors as well as passenger cars, but the time periods for trucks to pass would remain from 8am to 8pm.
The Macau-Zhuhai Cross Border Industrial Zone Special will open temporarily from midnight to 7am daily to walking residents, which will benefit cross-border employees.
Macau custom will also increase police forces to prevent drug and smuggling crimes.
Almost 42 thousand visitors from mainland China cross the three borders daily.
