The Macao government announced today that the special corridor between Macao and Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) will end on 16 July and there will be no service extension.
Speaking at a press conference, Lau Fong Chi from the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said that since the opening of the maritime corridor on 17 June, 1,267 residents have returned home through the Hong Kong airport. During the same period, 670 left the territory through the special boat service that links Macao to the Hong Kong airport.
According to the MGTO representative, 1,684 residents are registered to return to Macao as of today. Lau Fong Chi also explained that on 16 July, the last vessel to Macao will depart at 11 pm from the HKIA and the last ferry to the Hong Kong International Airport leaves Taipa’s Maritime Passenger Terminal at 7 pm.
Last month the MGTO representative warned that, on the last day of the service, the time limit for residents to arrive at Hong Kong Airport to pick up the vessel is at 10 pm.
With the decision not to extend the special maritime corridor, Macao’s residents will no longer be able to fly out of the HKIA or return to Macao via the HKIA.
