Hollywood Roosevelt from Los Angeles is making Macau its Asian debut with an investment of two billion patacas to build a 400-room 1950s Hollywood-themed hotel next to the Macau Jockey Club in Taipa.

The hotel is slated to be operational between the middle and the end of 2015.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the Hollywood Roosevelt Macau took place at the 23,225-square-metre site where the hotel’s investors and the project’s developer, Yoho Group, attended the event but declined to talk to the media.

However, the CEO of the hotel’s management company GCP Hospitality, Christophe Vielle, told reporters that the developer would like to have a casino in the hotel.

“I’m doing this as if there were no casinos,” Vielle said in response to whether there would be a casino in the hotel, “Of course, if there was one, it’ll be better. I think the developer hopes to have a casino there,” he told The Macau Post Daily.

Vielle pointed out that the relatively small hotel would be a “sophisticated” alternative to Cotai’s mega-hotels.

“There are so many big hotels in Macau but they’re all the same, so I think they are all very boring,” Vielle said, adding: “For people who are sophisticated there’s nothing in Macau, there’s nothing exciting [for them].”

According to Vielle, the Hollywood Roosevelt Macau will have 12 to 15 floors with 373 rooms, of which 18 will be duplexes on the top floor with jacuzzis on the roof, restaurants, bars and clubs, which would mostly be exclusively for members to provide more privacy and “to get the right crowd”.(macaunews)
