Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 1 will be issued at 7 p.m., according to the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG).
The tropical depression over the northern part of the South China Sea is intensifying and moving northwest towards the western coast of Guangdong.
According to the weather bureau, it will start to affect the Pearl River Delta from Saturday onward.
The tropical depression will come closest to Macao on Sunday. Members of the public are advised to prepare preventive measures and be aware of flooding caused by heavy rain.
