Macau 99 hotels and guesthouses welcomed a record 5.23 million guests in the first half of the year, a 16.9 percent increase from the same period of last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said yesterday.
The average occupancy rate – including bulk bookings by junket operators – stood at 79.6 percent, down by two percentage points.
The hospitality industry had 28,082 rooms at the end of June, up 15.7 percent year-on-year. Guestrooms in 5-star hotels accounted for 66.5 percent of the total.
Hotel guests accounted for about 37 percent of all visitor arrivals in the first half of the year. About 71.9 percent of all overnight visitors stood at a hotel or guesthouse.
In June, 904,811 guests checked into local hotels and guesthouses, a 16.8 percent growth from the same month last year.
The number of guests staying in 5-star hotels leaped 36.3 percent to 552,850 in June. Guests’ average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.3 nights.(macaunews)
