Macau’s 95 hotels recorded 2.18 million guests in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 13.6 percent, according to official statistics released Monday.
The average room occupancy rate stood at 83.2 percent, up 2.2 percentage points.
The number of guestrooms stood at 22,272 at the end of March, an increase of 2,143 rooms (+10.6 percent) from a year earlier.
The city’s 5-star hotels accounted for 63.7 percent of the total number of guestrooms.
Hotel guests accounted for 31.4 percent of Macau’s visitor arrivals in the first three months.
In March, the hospitality industry recorded 760,416 guests, an increase of 12.2 percent year-on-year. Guests stayed an average of just 1.4 nights, basically unchanged from a year earlier.
The number of package-tour visitors rose 45.6 percent year-on-year to 2.05 million in the first quarter, accounting for 29.5 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals. In the first quarter last year, package-tour visitors made up 21.9 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals.(macaunews)
