The head of the Macau Govern ment Tourist Office (MGTO), Joao Manuel Costa Antunes said Thursday that being the host city for the recently established Global Tourism Economy Forum, Macau will be given expert knowledge on how to boost competitiveness and consolidate its position as a world centre of tourism and leisure.
Costa Antunes made the re marks in a speech during a signing ceremony between the government and the locally incorporated Global Tourism Economy Research Centre (GTERC) to confirm Macau’s role as the host city for the forum, which will debut from September 9 to 11 at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre.
Chi na Chamber of Tourism President Wang Ping said during the event, mainland China generated 2.57 trillion yuan in revenue in domestic and foreign tour ism last year and has created 500,000 jobs in the tourism industry.
“As China’s tourism has growth potential, this forum serves to con nect tourism and related industries, a formative step for the orderly and sustainable development of China’s tourism market as a whole,” Wang said.
GTERC Chairmwoman Pansy Ho Chiu King said in a speech that the forum will use macro factors to map out economic benefits to tackle the ups and downs of the tourism industry and draw up development strategies for the sustainability of Macau’s tourism industry, as well as provide networking opportunities that lead to potential co-operation.
According to the organiser, the forum’s discussions will centre around the theme of “Growth Driv ing Growth: Synergistic Interplay of Tourism and Economic Devel opment” with discussions includ ing “Tourism and Overall Urban Planning”, “Large Events and Life style”, “Information Technology In novation and the Media”, as well as “Developing New Markets”.(macaunews)
