Macau, whose land area amounts to just 29.9 square kilometers, logged 208,037 licensed motor vehicles at the end of March, a year-on-year increase of five percent, The Macau Post Daily reports today, citing official statistics.
The number of motor vehicles per square kilometre reached 6,957 at the end of the first quarter.
The number of scooters reached 111,717 at the end of March, accounting for 53.7 percent of the total number of motor vehicles. Cars accounted for 39 percent of all motor vehicles.
In the first quarter, 4,190 new motor vehicles were registered, an increase of three percent from the same period last year.
The number of traffic accident rose seven percent year-on-year to 3,620 reported cases in the first quarter, resulting in 1,298 victims including two fatalities.
At the end of last year, Macau’s population – including imported labour – stood at 557,400, according to official statistics.(macaunews)
