Macau, China, 27 Oct -The government’s Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) is urging residents to suspend any trips to Thailand due to the severe flooding which forced Bangkok ’s domestic airport, Don Muang, to shut down on Tuesday.
About one third of Thailand is affected by the catastrophe.
“Due to the floods in Bangkok and several other provinces in Thailand , the Tourism Crisis Management Office warns local residents that they should keep an eye on the current situation in Thailand and suspend their trips to Thailand ,” the statement said.
According to the statement, there were three tour groups comprising 60 Macau residents holidaying in Thailand earlier this week and they should have all returned to Macau by today.
According to The Macau Post Daily the statement did not say how many Macau people are currently on holiday or business trips in Thailand .
There were no more tours setting off from Macau for Thailand at the moment, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Air Macau issued a statement Wednesday announcing that customers holding Thailand-bound tickets with departure dates on or before October 31 can change their booking free of charge and travel on or before December 31 to the country.
For three months since late July, the floods, caused by unusually heavy monsoon rain, in Thailand have resulted in at least 373 deaths, affecting 26 provinces in central and north-eastern parts of the country and at least 10 million people.
Southern Thailand, including Phuket, has not been affected by the monster floods.(MacauNews/Tourism)
