Macau, China, 24 May – Macau logged 8.77 million visitor arrivals in the first four months of this year, up 6.6 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Monday.
Mainlanders and Hong Kong citizens accounted for 56.4 percent and 28.4 percent of all visitor arrivals between January and April, respectively. The number of visitors from Taiwan dropped 12.7 percent to just 385,962.
A total of 132,295 visitors from South Korea arrived in Macau in the first four months, a year-on-year growth of 22 percent.
Asians accounted for 97.4 percent of Macau ’s total number of visitor arrivals between January and April, The Macau Post Daily said today.
In the first four months, 54.5 percent of all visitors arrived by land via Zhuhai, 39.4 percent by sea from Hong Kong and Guangdong, and just 6.1 percent by air.
In April, Macau logged 2.34 visitor arrivals in April, up 10.7 percent year-on-year. Same-day visitors accounted for 54.4 percent of the total number. April’s number was the second highest on record. August last year recorded 2.36 million visitor arrivals.
Meanwhile, the number of Macau International Airport passengers fell 11 percent year-on-year to 1.26 million in the first four months, the facility’s management company ADA announced also Monday.
Cargo throughput at the airport dropped 37 percent to 11,973 metric tonnes.
Taiwan and the mainland generated 35 percent and 27 percent of the airport’s total passenger movement in April, followed by Thailand and Malaysia that had a market share of 12 percent and eight percent, respectively.(MacauNews/ Tourism)
