Macau, China, 24 Jun – Macau’s total visitor arrivals during the first five months of 2010 rose by 15.8 percent year-on-year to 10.33 million, according to figures released Wednesday by the city’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The majority of visitor come from China mainland and Hong Kong, respectively at 5.52 million and 3.01 million representing 53.5 percent and 29.1 percent of all arrivals.
The number of mainland vistors was up 24.2 percent and the number of visitors from Hong Kong grew just 6.2 percent.
Visitors from Asia made up 97.3 percent of the total number of arrivals.
The number of visitors from India jumped 82.5 percent year-on-year to 65,240 in the first fice months and the number of South Korea tourists rose 64.1 percent to 133,762.
Macau’s total visitor arrivals for May 2010 significantly went up by 31.8 percent over the same period of last year to 2.098 million, according to the figures released Wednesday.
Analyzed by place of residence, visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 43.5 percent year-on-year to 1.135 million in May, accounting for 54.1 percent of the total, while visitors from China’s Hong Kong and Taiwan, and Japan rose by 20.5 percent, six percent and 39.5 percent respectively, the figures indicated.
Macau receives 21.7 million visitors last year, a decrease of 5.1 percent on 2008.
