Macau’s number of visitor arrivals rose by 15.9 percent year-on-year to 3.4 million last month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Thursday.
According to a DSEC statement, overnight visitors (1.6 million) grew by 5.4 percent, while same-day visitors (1.8 million) surged by 27.4 percent.
Overnight visitors stayed an average of 2.2 days.
The daily average of visitor arrivals reached 114,406 last month.
Mainland visitors rose by 13.5 percent to 2.3 million. Mainlanders accounted for 68.2 percent of all visitor arrivals last month.
While Hong Kong visitors rose by 0.8 percent to 696,902 in April, accounting for 20.3 percent of all visitor arrivals, those from Taiwan dropped by 2.9 percent to 91,829.
South Koreans continued to be Macau’s number-one foreign visitor segment, reaching 61,573 last month, up by 0.8 percent year-on-year. South Koreans accounted for 1.8 percent of last month’s total number of visitor arrivals.
Some 1.4 million visitor arrivals were from the Greater Bay Area (GBA), mostly from Hong Kong and Zhuhai, a year-on-year increase by 17.6 percent. The GBA comprises 9 cities in Guangdong province as well as Hong Kong and Macau.
In the first four months of the year, Macau recorded 13.79 million visitor arrivals, up by 19.9 percent year-on-year.
