Macau Chief Executive Electoral Affairs Commission President Song Man Lei Wednesday said that permanent residents interested in applying to join the Chief Executive Election Committee may request application forms from the electoral service desk on the ground floor at the Public Administration Building in Rua do Campo from next Monday.
Song spoke to reporters after a regular meeting of the commission at the Public Administration Building.
Song also said that the application forms are to be submitted from April 24 to May 7 by 6 p.m. to the electoral service desk at the Public Administration Building.
Song stressed that according to the law, each voter can only represent one legal person (registered association). Each legal person has a maximum of 22 voters.
The election for the Chief Executive Election Committee will be held on June 16. The committee has 400 members from four sectors, including 50 ex-officio members from the Macau Legislative Assembly (AL), National People’s Congress (NPC), National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Macau’s municipal organs. A total of 120 members represent the 1st sector comprising manufacturing, trade and finance; 115 represent the 2nd sector comprising the cultural, educational, professional and sports subsectors; and another 115 represent the 3rd sector comprising the labour, social services, and religious subsectors.
Song underlined that the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP) has published a free booklet on the formalities for electing the members of the Chief Executive Election Committee, which can be obtained from the ground-floor electoral service desk at the Public Administration Building, adding that the booklet can also be downloaded from the Chief Executive Election official website.
She further underlined that the booklet introduces the procedure and timetable for the election of the Chief Executive Election Committee. The free booklet is available in Chinese and Portuguese.
Song pointed out that the number of staff for polling stations on June 16 will be around 140, a decrease of about 30 compared to the previous election for the Chief Executive Election Committee, adding that the staff will be recruited from the civil service.
The date of the chief executive election is still to be announced.
The director of the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, Zhang Xiaoming, said in Beijing last month that the chief executive election would be held in August.(Macaunews)
