Central People’s Government Liaison Office in Macau Director Fu Ziying said Tuesday that President Xi Jinping has deep feelings for Macau, adding that Xi also has comprehensive knowledge of Macau’s realities and social and economic sectors, as well as high expectations for Macau’s future development, according to Macau Chinese-language media reports from Beijing.

According to the reports, Fu made the remarks during a meeting with the 12 Macau deputies to the National People’s Congress (NPC) in Beijing yesterday.

According to the reports, Fu mentioned during the meeting what Xi had said before about Macau, such as that Macau’s success represents the successful implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, quoting the president as saying that Macau’s success provides a good example and a good path for the country’s future unification and the Chinese nation’s rejuvenation.

In order to better carry out the “One Country, Two Systems” principle in Macau, Fu shared the following 5 points with the 12 local deputies.

1) Macau needs to speed up its participation in the national development plan, and improve its regional cooperation capabilities.

2) Macau needs to nurture new industries and promote adequate economic development.

3) Based on the “One Centre, One Platform” concept, Macau needs to take part in the country’s reform and opening up. While “One Centre” refers to the aim of developing Macau into a world centre for tourism and leisure, “One Platform” refers to the objective to transform Macau into a service platform for economic and trade ties between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

4) Macau needs to strengthen its supervision of the gaming industry, promote the diversification of the gaming industry and prevent financial risks.

5) Macau needs to effectively improve its peoples’ livelihoods and sense of happiness, including fostering the construction of a tidal gate (between the Macau peninsula and Wanzai in Zhuhai) and the light rail transit (LRT) system, apart from other issues such as urban renewal, high real-estate prices, traffic congestion, and disaster prevention and relief.(Macaunews)
