Macau is ready to further integrate into the national development plan and assume its own responsibilities, Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said Monday, Xinhua reported.
Chui’s remarks were released by his office in a statement shortly after the unveiling of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), which was released by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the State Council.
The plan, which is of great importance and provides great opportunities for the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), explains Macau’s role in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and its important position in the national development strategy, Chui noted.
The objective of the plan is to promote the development of nine cities in Guangdong, Macau and Hong Kong, so as to push forward the area’s overall socio-economic development and to upgrade development of the country, he added.
Through the development of the world-class Greater Bay Area, which is guided by ecological, technological and cultural aspects, the plan also aims at improving people’s livelihoods and the area’s economic development, thus laying a solid foundation for the development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, Chui said.
He stressed that Macau will continue to uphold the principle of “One Country, Two Systems”, and put the national interest as its priority.
Macau is willing to deepen cooperation with other cities in the Greater Bay Area and make its own contributions to the nation’s strategic development, so as to achieve greater success in terms of integration into the national development, Chui added.
