The government is planning to build two more links between the land reclamation area known as Zone A and the peninsula, in addition to the previously-planned link which is slated to be completed by the end of the year, Ella Lei Cheng I, who heads the legislature’s Follow-up Committee for Land and Public Concession Affairs, quoted government officials as saying on Thursday.
Lei briefed reporters after a closed-door meeting of the committee. The members of the committee asked the officials, including Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosario, to brief them on the progress of the government’s six land reclamation projects.
The six new land reclamation zones are officially known as A, B, C, D, E1 and E2.
The government has said that the reclamation of Zone A – which lies off the north-eastern coast of the peninsula – will be completed at the end of this year.
The construction of a link between Zone A and the Oriental Pearl roundabout (Rotunda da Amizade) on the peninsula began in August last year, and is slated to be completed by the end of the year.
According to the Macau Post Daily, Lei quoted the officials as saying that the government is planning a link between Zone A and a location near Rua dos Pescadores, in addition to the one to the Oriental Pearl.
According to Lei, the government is now inviting bids for the design of the Rua dos Pescadores link.
Meanwhile, Lei said the government was also considering the construction of a tunnel between Zone A and Zone B off Nape. She said that the government had finished a feasibility study of the tunnel project, after which the design phase would begin.
