Macau ranks fifth in North Asia as far as visa-free access for its passport holders is concerned, according to the findings of a survey released by the Hong Kong office of Jersey-based consultancy Henley & Partners on Tuesday.
The global residence and citizenship advisory firm released its annual Visa Restrictions Index, informally known as travel freedom ranking.
The index is produced in partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
According to a statement by the firm, Macau was the “biggest climber” in North Asia last year, adding four countries to take its visa-free access total to 127, putting it in 5th place in North Asia.
Hong Kong, which was ranked in 20th place world last year, dropped to 22nd place, with visa-free access to 153 countries.
Mainland China was in sixth place in North Asia, but ranks 85th globally, with visa-free access to 51 countries.
Germany continued to be No. 1 on the ranking for the fourth year, with visa-free access to 176 countries. Sweden remained in second place, with visa-free access to 175 countries.
