Fanny Vong Chuk Kwan has been President of the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) since 2001. She speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
A native of Macao, Vong has both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration from the University of Macau. She completed her doctoral research at Stockholm University and Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e da Empresa (ISCTE) on a European Union scholarship.
She was a lecturer at the University of Macau before joining IFTM as vice-director of Tourism College in 1999.
Vong is currently president of the public institution of higher education in Macao offering degree programmes and professional training in tourism and hospitality. She also sits on the Macao SAR government’s Tourism Development Committee, the Cultural Industry Committee, the Talent Development Committee and the Guangdong-Macao Development Strategies Group.
Vong has participated in numerous tourism research and training projects initiated by both the Macao government as well as intergovernmental organisations such as the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Vong believes that “Macao needs an army of well-educated and well-trained professionals stationed throughout all ranks of the tourism and hospitality industries.”
