Two catering professionals will be representing Macao at the World Young Chef Young Waiter competition in Monaco next month.

Chef William Wang and waiter Mondass Velautham, who both work for Wynn in Macao, came out top at the local final of the competition on 18 October.

They will be facing off with their international counterparts from Canada, the Cayman Islands, UK, India, Ireland, the US and Wales at the World Young Chef Young Waiter final on 15-16 November.

The local contest was organised in June by the Macau Culinary Association in conjunction with the Macao Government Tourism Office, Macao Institute for Tourism Studies and Wynn Resorts, aiming to enhance the culinary skills, professional catering knowledge and international competitiveness of young catering personnel in Macao.

After going through several rounds of competition with many young entrants from the catering sector, Wynn team members William Wang and Man Cheang finished champion and the first runner-up in the Young Chef competition, while the champion and second runner-up awards in the Young Waiter competition were won by Wynn’s Mondass Velautham and Kate Lei.

Wynn hopes that its support for the competition will encourage the sector’s best to exchange skills, thereby raising young catering personnel’s professional standards and international competitiveness.
