Macau’s number of visitor arrivals rose 6.5 per cent year-on-year to 3.62 million in August, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Monday.
According to the DSEC data, the daily average of visitor arrivals reached 116,875 last month.
Same-day visitors, which accounted for 53 per cent of the total number of visitor arrivals, increased 20.2 per cent, while overnight visitors dropped 5.7 per cent.
Visitors’ average length of stay remained unchanged year-on-year at 1.2 days, with overnight visitors staying for 2.3 days.
Mainland Chinese visitors, who accounted for 73 per cent of all visitor arrivals, rose 4.7 per cent to 2.64 million. About 49.1 per cent of all mainland visitors came from Guangdong. Hongkongers accounted for 18.4 per cent of all visitor arrivals. Their number increased 19.7 per cent to 666,010. Taiwan visitors grew 1.2 per cent to 95,239. Visitors from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan accounted for 94 per cent of all visitor arrivals in August.
According to the Macau Post Daily, South Koreans continued to be Macau’s top foreign visitor segment. Their number fell 5 per cent to 62,731 last month.
A total of 448,005 visitors arrived via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) last month, accounting for 12.4 per cent of the total number of arrivals.
Meanwhile, the number of visitor arrivals in the first eight months rose 18 per cent to 27.4 million.
