Macau’s visitor arrivals numbers rose 17.6 percent year-on-year to 2.87 million in January, boosted by the start of the Chinese New Year on January 28, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Thursday.
Month-on-month, the number was up by 2.2 percent.
Overnight visitors increased 18.9 percent year on year to 1.36 million, while same-day visitors rose 16.4 percent to 1.51 million.
Visitors’ average length of stay was 1.1 days, down by 0.1 day compared with the same month last year. Overnight visitors’ average stay dropped 0.1 day to 2.1 days.
Visitors from the mainland increased 20.4 percent year on year to 1.99 million, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (1.13 million) were up by 43.8 percent.
Visitors from South Korea (81,448) and Hong Kong (527,218) both increased 17.6 percent, while those from Taiwan (84,263) dropped 2 percent.
Meanwhile, according to a separate DSEC statement, visitors’ per capita non-gambling spending rose 2.2 percent year on year to 1,701 patacas last year.
Visitors from the mainland had the highest per capita expenditure, at 1,975 patacas, up 0.5 percent year on year.
