Macau, China, 6 Feb – THAI Smile Air, Thai Airways International (THAI)’s new sub-brand carrier, will start its first commercial flight from Bangkok to Macau on July 1.

The airways’ maiden Macau route will operate two flights daily.

Ticket sales are slated to begin in April.

The Macau-Bangkok route’s initial passenger load is expected to reach over 70 percent per flight, Chokchai Panyayong, THAI executive vice-president for Strategy and Business Development said.

THAI Smile Air will operate four aircraft for its flights from Bangkok to Macau, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Kolkata, Jakarta, and Phnom Penh .

THAI President Piyasvasti Amranand said THAI Smile Air was well-positioned to be a “light-premium” sub-brand of THAI, offering passengers an alternative option for flight services.

Air Asia and Air Macau are currently the only airlines to operate the Bangkok-Macau route, which is popular with so-called visa runners from the mainland keen to extend their stay in Macau, The Macau Post Daily reports today, quoting recent Thai media reports.(MacauNews/Tourism)
