Macau’s number of visitor arrivals dropped 1.7 percent to 3.03 million year-on-year last month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Wednesday.
However, the number was up 14.5 percent from the previous month.
The daily average of visitor arrivals stood at 101,103 in August.
Same-day visitors amounted to 53 percent of the total, down 3.5 percent year-on-year. The number of overnight visitors rose slightly by 0.4 percent to 1.42 million.
Visitors’ average length of stay rose by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.1 days. Overnight visitors’ stay increased by 0.2 day to 2.1 days.
Mainland visitors dropped 1.7 percent year-on-year to 2.09 million. Mainlanders accounted for 69 percent of all visitor arrivals. Half of all mainland visitor arrivals travelled under the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS). Guangdong residents accounted for 46.8 percent of all mainland visitors.
Hong Kong residents made up 21.1 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals. Their number was up 0.8 percent year-on-year.
In the first eight months, visitor arrivals totaled 20.4 million, down by 3.2 percent.
