Macau received 28.9 million vivitors in the period from January to October, an increase of 8.4% year-on-year, according to the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau.

The number of visitors from Mainland China increased by 13.1% year-on-year (20.5 million), with visitors from Hong Kong (5.0 million) and Taiwan (885,000) falling by 1.3% and 0.2%, respectively.

The Statistics and Census Bureau also reported that the average length of stay of visitors was 1.3 days, an additional 0.1 days compared to the same period last year.

In October, 3.1 million people arrived in Macau, an increase of 9.2% year-on-year and 23.2% over last September, due to the commemorative holidays of the People’s Republic of China and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge opening to traffic.

Macau’s Tourism Director, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes recently said that the total number of people to visit Macau this year is expected to reach 35 million, a record and an annual increase of 7.0%, during a weekly debate organised by the local Chinese language radio station.
