Macau’s 97 hotels and guesthouses welcomed 6.14 million guests in the first seven months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 14.7 percent, according to official data cited by The Macau Post Daily today.

The average occupancy rate stood at 80.5 percent in the seven-month period, down by 2.1 percentage points.

At the end of July, Macau’s hospitality industry had 27,759 guestrooms, up 14.5 percent year-on-year. Guestrooms in 5-star hotels accounted for two thirds of the total number.

In July, 907,965 guests checked into local hotels and guesthouses, up 3.7 percent year-on-year. Some 58 percent of all guests stayed in 5-star hotels in July.

Guests stayed for an average of just 1.3 nights in July, almost unchanged from a year earlier.

The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses amounted to 84.4 percent in July, down by 1.2 percentage points year-on-year, with 4-star hotels leading at 87.2 percent.

In the January-July period, some 36.7 percent of all visitor arrivals checked into a local hotel or guesthouse.

The number of visitor arrivals rose 4.3 percent year-on-year to 16.7 million in the first seven months.

In July, Macau recorded 2.56 million visitor arrivals, a year-on-year growth of 4.9 percent. Same-day visitors accounted for 50.2 percent of all arrivals. Mainlanders made up 64.7 percent of all visitors arrivals in July.(macaunews)
