Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On has set up a so-called Committee for Development of the World Centre of Tourism and Leisure which he will chair, as announced in Wednesday’s Official Gazette (BO).

The brand-new committee is responsible for conducting studies and drafting policies on building Macau into a “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure”. It duties include drafting a blueprint for tourism development for the next five years.

The committee has 10 members, comprising the chief executive, secretary for economy and finance, secretary for social affairs and culture, secretary for transport and public works, chief-of-cabinet of the office of the chief executive, government spokesperson, two representatives of the Office of the Chief Executive and two from the Policy Research Office.

According to the gazette, Policy Research Office Director Lao Pun Lap and Vice-Director Ung Hoi Ian, as well as Wu Lok Kan and Lei Ngan Leng, both advisors to the Office of the Chief Executive, have been appointed committee members, initially for one year each.

Chui first proposed setting up the committee when he ran for his second term last year.
