Hotels log 6.2 million guests in Jan-Aug, up 11 pct

Macau’s 66 hotels and 33 inns received 6.23 million guests in the first eight months, 11.4 percent more than in the same period of last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said Monday.

According to a DSEC statement, the occupancy rate stood at 82.8 percent in the eight-month period, down by 0.9 percentage point.

Hotel and inn guests accounted for one third of all visitor arrivals between January and August.

The number of guestrooms stood at 24,266 at the end of August, a year-on-year increase of 2,143 rooms (+9.7 percent).

Five-star hotels accounted for 61.1 percent of all guestrooms.

In August, the number of guests rose 8.8 percent year-on-year to 881,716. Guests’ average length of stay dropped by 0.18 night to 1.3 nights.(macaunews)
