Macau’s number of hotel guests rose just one percent year-on-year to 9.8 million between January and November last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

The hospitality industry’s average occupancy rate stood at 87 percent, an increase of four percentage points.

At the end of November, the city’s 98 hotels and guesthouses provided 28,000 guestrooms, one percent more than a year earlier. Five-star hotels accounted for two thirds of the total supply of guestrooms.

A total of 902,000 guests checked into hotels and guesthouses in November, a year-on-year increase of two percent. Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 65 percent and 11 percent of all guests respectively. While the number of guests from the mainland rose 14 percent year-on-year in November, the number of guests from Hong Kong dropped 22 percent.

In November, guests’ average length of stay remained unchanged from previous months at just 1.4 nights. (macaunews/macaupost)
