Hotel guests rise 19 pct in January

Macau’s hospitality industry recorded 832,543 guests in January, a year-on-year increase of 19.1 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said Thursday.

Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 60.3 percent and 14.5 percent of all guests.

Guests’ average length of stay stood at just 1.4 nights, a slight decrease from a year earlier.

The city’s 100 hotels and guesthouses provided 26,027 guestrooms at the end of January, up 16.5 percent. Guestrooms of 5-star hotels accounted for 63.8 percent of the total.

Hotels’ average occupancy rate rose 3.8 percentage points to 82.9 percent, with 5-star hotels reaching 84.9 percent.

Hotel guests accounted for 36 percent of all visitor arrivals.

The number of visitor arrivals rose 6.1 percent year-on-year to 2.3 million in January, according to an earlier DSEC statement.(macaunews)
