Macau, China, 16 Nov – Macau’s hospitality industry recorded 701,708 guests in September, an increase of 19.1 percent from the same month of last year, The Macau Post Daily reports today, citing official statistics.

However, the number of hotel and boarding house guests dropped 13.2 percent from the previous month that logged a record 809,120 guests.

In September, mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 54.1 percent and 19 percent of all guests respectively. Guests’ average length of stay remained basically unchanged at just 1.5 nights.

The average occupancy rate of hotels and boarding houses stood at 79.7 percent in September, up by 5.6 percentage points year-on-year. Hotels logged an average occupancy rate of 80.2 percent, with 4-star hotels enjoying the industry’s highest average occupancy rate, at 85.3 percent.

At the end of September, the number of hotels’ and boarding houses’ available guestrooms stood at 22,407, up by 2,561 rooms (+12.9 percent) from a year earlier. Five-star hotels accounted for 63.8 percent of the total number of guestrooms.

In the first nine months, the number of guests rose 9.7 percent year-on-year to 6.29 million.

Hotel and boarding house guests accounted for 30.5 percent of all visitor arrivals in the first nine months.

Macau logged 20.6 million visitor arrivals between January and September, up 11.2 percent year-on-year.

In August, Macau had 94 hotels and boarding houses, including 26 five-star hotels and 31 boarding houses, locally known as “pensao” or “ vila ”.(MacauNews/Tourism)
