Macau’s number of hotel guests dropped 10.4 percent year-on-year to 3.18 million in the first four months of the year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.
According to a DSEC statement, hotels’ average occupancy rate stood at 79 percent in the January-April period, a decrease of 7.3 percentage points.
At the end of April, Macau’s 99 hotel and guesthouses provided 28,000 guestrooms, up 1.7 percent year-on-year. Five-star hotel accounted for 64.8 percent of the total room supply.
A total of 827,000 guests checked into hotels and guesthouses in April, down by 7.1 percent year-on-year. Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 63 percent and 15 percent of all guests. While the number of mainland guests dropped 12 percent, those from Hong Kong and Taiwan rose 10.9 percent and 8.6 percent respectively.
Guests’ average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.4 nights.
