The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is launching a MOP 600 million promotional campaign in countries and regions with direct flights to Macao. Special offers and roadshows will be rolled out with the aim of luring more visitors to the SAR.

MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said her office planned to boost Macao’s branding and introduce discounted tourism products, including a “buy-one-get-one-free” deal, aimed at both domestic and foreign passengers.

She said 120,000 airline tickets had been allocated to the promotion, and that the MGTO was in close contact with Air Macau and would respond to changes in market conditions to adjust the proportion of free air tickets allocated to passengers from mainland China, Taiwan and overseas.

The number of flights between Taiwan and Macao would also be increased as soon as possible, Senna Fernandes said, in response to the removal of travel restrictions.

According to the MGTO, Taiwanese visitors were the third highest category of pre-pandemic visitor arrivals (after tourists from mainland China and Hong Kong). The MGTO has said it will invite representatives from Taiwan’s tourism industry to visit Macao so that they can familiarise themselves with the city’s new attractions

The current subsidy programme for group tours will also be expanded to Taiwan and foreign markets, Senna Fernandes said.

She also expressed optimism over the resumption of direct flights from Kuala Lumpur, pointing out that Malaysia was one of Macao’s top 10 source markets for international tourists prior to the pandemic, with over 200,000 visitor arrivals a year, about 60 per cent of whom stayed in Macao for more than a day.
