A total of 397,101 tourists visited Macau during the Dragon Boat Festival between last Friday and Sunday, up 58.8 percent from the same holiday period last year, the government announced Monday.

The daily average of visitor arrivals reached 132,367 during the holiday.

The festival was a three-day holiday on the mainland. It was a public holiday on Friday in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

The increase beat the forecast by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), which had predicted a 30 percent increase in visitor arrivals.

A total of 1.7 million people crossed Macau’s border checkpoints during the period – visitors, locals, non-resident workers and mainland students enrolled in local education establishments.

The Barrier Gate and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) were Macau’s most busy border checkpoints. Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for the bulk of Macau’s Dragon Boat Festival visitor arrivals.(Macaunews)
