Macau, China, 06 Apr – Daytrippers accounted for 53.7 percent of all visitor arrivals during 2008, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has announced.

The number of daytrippers reached 12.3 million in 2008.

Package-tour visitors (4.9 million) accounted for 21 percent of all visitor arrivals in 2008.

The total number of visitor arrivals last year stood at 22.91 million.

The Macau Post Daily said that Mainland Chinese (11.59 million) and Hong Kong residents accounted for 50.6 percent and 30.5 percent of all visitor arrivals last year, respectively.

The number of hotel guest rooms rose eight percent year-on-year to 17,490 at the end of last year. The average occupancy rate dropped 2.7 percentage points to 74.5 percent last year. The number of hotel guests rose 14 percent year-on-year to 6.54 million. On average, hotel guests stayed for 1.44 nights, up 0.10 night from 2007.

Visitors’ per capita spending (not including gambling) stood at 1,729 patacas last year, up six percent year-on-year. Mainland Chinese had per capita spending of 3,571 patacas.

Visitors’ per capita shopping spending amounted to 702 patacas last year, up one percent on 2007.

The average length of stay of visitors remained unchanged at just 1.1 days.
