The Macau Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) said on Tuesday that it has approved 198 extra and charter flights due to the Chinese New Year holiday period’s increased demand.
According to an AACM statement, the additional CNY take-offs and touch-downs have been green-lighted for the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, and Japan.
The additional flights began on Monday last week and are slated to end on February 28, benefitting Air Macau, Juneyao Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, and East Asia Airlines.
A total of 151 of the flights are to and from Shanghai, Wanzhou, Chengdu, Changzhou and Zhengzhou by plane and Shenzhen by helicopter. The other destinations are Taipei (25 flights), Danang (10 flights), Bangkok (8 flights), and Osaka and Sapporo (4 flights).
The number of extra and charter flights for the 2019 Chinese New Year has risen by 147 percent compared to the same period last year, when the regulator approved 80 extra and charter flights.
