Macau recorded 21.9 million visitor arrivals in the first nine months, a year-on-year growth of five percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said Thursday.

Visitors from the mainland and South Korea rose by 12 percent and 5.8 percent respectively, while those from Hong Kong and Taiwan dropped by 4.5 percent and 9.5 percent.

In September, the number of visitors rose 7.9 percent year-on-year to 2.3 million. Same-day visitors accounted for 50.5 percent of the total.

Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 64.4 percent and 22.4 percent of all visitor arrivals last month respectively. About 39 percent of mainland visitors entered Macau under the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS).

Visitors from the greater China area (mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan) made up 90.8 percent of all arrivals.

Visitors from Guangdong accounted for 25 percent of Macau’s total number of visitors in September.

Visitors’ average length of stay remained virtually unchanged at just one day.(macaunews)
