14.2 million visit Macau in Jan-June, up 4.2 pct

Macau received 14.1 million visitor arrivals in the first six months of the year, a year-on-year growth of 4.2 percent on the same period of last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Tuesday.

Mainlanders accounted for 62.9 percent and Hongkongers made up 23.7 percent of all visitors respectively. Most mainland visitors came from Guangdong (2.5 million), Shanghai (226,089), Beijing (124,633) and Zhejiang (109,559).

A total of 458,072 Taiwanese and 226,133 South Koreans visited Macau between January and June.

While the number of mainland visitors rose 9.8 percent year-on-year, the number of visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan fell 3.3 percent and 8.6 percent respectively.

Nearly 90 percent of all visitors came from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Same-day visitors accounted for 51.5 percent of all arrivals.

Visitors stayed an average of just one day.

In June, Macau welcomed 2.3 million visitor arrivals, up 10.4 percent year-on-year.

The daily average of visitors stood at 77,497 last month, The Macau Post Daily pointed out.(macaunews)
