Typhoon Signal No. 8NE was issued at 7:30 am and will remain in effect this morning, according to the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Services (SMG).

According to SMG, “local winds will strengthen”. At 7 am local time, tropical storm “Nangka” is located about 420 km south of Macao and moves toward Hainan Island. The blue storm surge warning is also still in force.

The tropical storm “Nangka” is located about 420 km south of Macao and is moving toward Hainan Island.

The water level is expected to keep rising, according to SMG. “Flooding will occur in low-lying areas between 10-13 5 am and 9 am. The highest flooding level will be below 0.5 metre.”

Last August, Macao has been battered by Typhoon Higos forcing the government to issue signal No. 10, the highest on the tropical storm scale.
