More than half the domestic violence cases in Macao last year involved spousal abuse, according to the latest statistics.

The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) announced that out of 38 suspected cases, 23 were about spousal abuse, 10 about child abuse and one about abuse of the elderly, while four cases have been classified as domestic violence between family members, The Macau Post Daily reported.

According to the IAS, 27 of last year’s suspected domestic violence cases involved physical violence, while four cases involved mental abuse, two cases involved multiple forms of violence and aggression, and five cases involved sexual offences.
