Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said in a Father’s Day audio message on Sunday that “family harmony is the basis for social harmony.”
Chui recorded the message to wish all fathers in Macau all the best, namely good health and happiness.
The message also pointed out that one’s family home is one’s first school and family customs are one’s first lesson.
“Family customs are linked to people’s customs, and people customs generate social customs,” Chui, who holds a PhD in public health, said, adding that social harmony was the sine qua non to achieve tranquility and stability in the bosom of one’s family and good relations with one’s neighbours.
Chui also said that while family concepts were changing in line with social changes, every family wished to live in an atmosphere of harmony where the young grow up happily, the adults are successful and the elderly are well taken care of, where everyone wants the family home to be a place to relax and recover one’s strength.
Chui also pledged to strengthen the government’s long-term efforts to improve the city’s social security, health care, housing, education and human resources.
“Peace, health and happiness are the wishes and dreams of all families,” Chui said. (macaunews/macaupost)
