They formed just part of Macau’s May Day protest. Other marchers included construction workers upset at the hiring of illegal workers because of the property boom.
Around 2,000 protesters took part in what has become an annual show of social discontent in the past few years.
The protest marked the first time teachers took part as an organised group.
There were about 500 and included students marching in support. Most complained about the wage differences between private and government schools – some 40 per cent less, teachers’ leader Choi Leong said.
Some 100 secondary and college students voiced their dissatisfaction at inflation, the high price of property and the lack of democratisation. They also appealed for the release of mainland artist Ai Weiwei .
