Macao’s Secretary for Security Wong Sio-chak said that the first anniversary of the implementation of the National Security Law for Hong Kong is of far-reaching significance, and can serve as a reference for Macao.
The policy secretary overseeing Macao’s public security and law enforcement agencies also underlined the related amendments to the Judicial Organisation Framework Law, the enactment of the Cybersecurity Law, and regulatory updates linked to immigration issues.
Wong, a former public prosecutor, made his views known after attending a seminar via video link about the first anniversary of the implementation of the National Security Law (NSL) in Hong Kong.
The seminar was organised by the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macao Studies. Apart from Hong Kong and Macao, the video link also included Beijing.
“The NSL’s positive results illustrate its timely implementation by safeguarding Hong Kong’s security and stability,” Wong said.
Wong also highlighted Macao’s ongoing effort to safeguard national security. He noted that in 2009 Macao enacted its Law on Safeguarding National Security, followed by the setting-up in 2018 of a special committee to safeguard national security.
“Macao’s effort of promoting and safeguarding national security could be advanced further based on Hong Kong’s example,” Wong said.
