Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On will present his government’s work report for this year and budget bill for next year to lawmakers in the middle of next month, the Government Information Bureau (GCS) said in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, Chui will present the 2019 work report and 2020 budget bill in a plenary session in the legislature’s hemicycle on November 12, slated to commence at 3 p.m., to be followed by a press conference at Government Headquarters starting at 5 p.m.
Unlike in previous years, there will be no question-and-answer session for lawmakers.
Chui’s presentation and press conference will be broadcast live and live-streamed by government-owned TDM and via several government-run websites and apps.
It will be the last time for Chui to present a work report and budget bill to the legislature. His second five-year term comes to an end at midnight on December 19. According to the Macau Post Daily, consequently, this time he will not deliver a policy address for next year.
Chui will be succeeded by Ho Iat Seng, a former president of the Legislative Assembly (AL), on December 20. Observers expect Ho to deliver his 2020 Policy Address in the legislature in the first quarter of next year. Chui has been at the helm of the local government since December 20, 2009.
According to Article 48 of the Macau Basic Law, the chief executive “may serve for not more than two consecutive [five-year] terms.”
