Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On will deliver his 2018 Policy Address during a plenary session of the Legislative Assembly (AL) in the legislature’s hemicycle this afternoon. The session is slated to start at 3 p.m.

Afterwards, Chui will hold a press conference at Government Headquarters.

Chui’s second five-year term at the helm of the local government ends on December 19 next year. According to Article 48 of the Macau Basic Law, the chief executive “may service for not more than two consecutive terms.”

Chui, 61, has headed Macau’s public administration since December 20, 2009. He was secretary for social affairs and culture during the 10-year term of the first chief executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), Edmund Ho Hau Wah, who has been vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) since March 2010

Chui holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Oklahoma.

The session will be broadcast live by government-owned TV and radio broadcaster TDM, aside from live broadcasts and streaming by other entities.

On Friday, Chui will attend a question-and-answer session hosted by the legislature. His five policy secretaries will present their portfolio programmes for next year in the legislature’s hemicycle one by one, starting next Thursday with Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Soi Fan. Each policy secretary will have two days to brief lawmakers on their programmes and answer questions. Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosario will be the last of the five secretaries to present his 2019 portfolio programme, on December 6-7.
